Museum Siam invites visitors to explore this question through Siam Dialogue: Foreign Quote, a special exhibition that examines the history of Siam through the eyes and records of people who came from different parts of the world.
Travelers, merchants, missionaries, diplomats, and scholars all encountered Siam in different ways, leaving behind documents, written accounts, photographs, and other records of their experiences. By examining these perspectives, the exhibition encourages visitors to consider how the observations of “others” have shaped the way we understand Siam, its people, and its place in the wider world.
Discover Siam Through Foreign Perspectives
The exhibition brings together a wide range of historical documents, records, images, and exhibits through collaboration with several partner organizations.
Among the participating institutions are the Natural History Museum, the National Science Museum (NSM), the Art Gallery of Silpakorn University, and Phuket Museum.
Rather than simply presenting historical accounts, Siam Dialogue: Foreign Quote encourages visitors to look at Siam from different perspectives and consider how those outside observations can reveal new aspects of Thai history and identity.
Seeing Siam through the eyes of foreigners can provide a different understanding of the country’s past while also prompting questions about how Thai identity and perceptions of the world have changed over time.
