Carrots: The Vegan Bistro
Carrots: The Vegan Bistro, Bangkok
If you’re looking for an out-of-the-city vegan eatery that isn’t too out of the city, Carrots: The Vegan Bistro, situated in the @Ekkamai Lifestyle Mall retail park, might be just the ticket. A 10-minute ride from the main Sukhumvit Road (bus 23 stops almost outside @Ekkamai), Carrots, with its think-big philosophy of ‘changing the world one bite at a time’, offers a fun menu of meat-free creations, from sandwiches and burgers to smoothie bowls. All of the restaurant’s meals are 100% plant-based and made from scratch using fresh fruits and vegetables sourced from local suppliers, with gluten-, garlic- and onion-free options available. Must-try set meals include the New York Egg Mayo Sandwich, with a creamy tofu filling and a side of crispy potato wedges; the Casablancan Chickpea Omelette, a moreish mixture of spinach, pumpkin and tomato purée in a succulent seared-chickpea wrap; and the No Eggs Benedict, poached tofu eggs on English muffins with rice bacon and hollandaise sauce. Also of note is the create-your-own breakfast option DIY Brekkie (served until 17:00), with items such as sourdough toast, vegan egg, scrambled tofu, avocado, tomatoes, mushrooms and carrot hummus to choose from. The drinks menu includes tea and coffee (with a selection of four kinds of plant-based milk), smoothies, coolers, vegan milkshakes, cold-pressed juices, wellness shots and, in keeping with the theme of the restaurant, Carrots Kombucha. Alcoholic drinks include beer, wine and cocktails. You can also take advantage of the unlimited free flavoured-water from a dispenser at the central bar while you decide how best to round off your Carrots experience: ice cream, mousse cake, donuts, tiramisu or the obligatory carrot cake.
