Suvarnabhumi Crowned World’s Leading Airport for Airline Connectivity

Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport has been named the world’s number-one airport for airline connectivity, now serving a record 113 international carriers, according to a new survey by Brilliant Maps. The achievement places Thailand’s main gateway ahead of Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, which slipped to second with 105 airlines.
Rounding out the global top five are Dubai International (97 airlines), Istanbul Airport (93), and Rome Fiumicino (92). Other major hubs in the top ten include Milan Malpensa (86), Shanghai Pudong (83), Tokyo Narita (83), Singapore Changi (82) and Frankfurt (80).
Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit celebrated the ranking as a historic milestone for Thailand’s aviation industry.
Suvarnabhumi, which has climbed from 58th to 39th place in global airport-quality rankings, is aiming even higher. Within the next five years, the airport intends to break into the world’s top 20 airports through an ambitious expansion program.
Key developments include:
- Expansion of Terminal 1 to the east
- Construction of a new Terminal 2 to the south, near Bang Na–Trat Road
- A fourth runway to ease congestion
- Greater use of digital technology and smart systems to improve efficiency and enhance the passenger journey
Once completed, these projects are expected to lift annual passenger capacity to 120 million, transforming Suvarnabhumi into not only a regional transit hub but also a destination in its own right.
The accolade comes as international air travel continues to rebound strongly, positioning Thailand as a rising leader in Asia’s aviation and logistics landscape.
