I just hear about the influenza in Thailand. I was planning to buy a flight soon. You think I must delay my trip? How bad is the situation now in Thailand?

Yeah, just saw the news about it myself! Something like over 100,000 cases so far, right?

And 15,000 new cases a week! I think you’re wise to consider a rethink, Bella. Are you travelling with any children or older people (they’re the most vulnerable groups)?

To answer your question, it’s business as usual here, but you do need to be careful. Might be a good idea to pack a mask if you do decide to come.

Yes, you need to take similar precautions as those taken during the Covid pandemic (mask wearing, frequent washing of hands, avoiding crowded places, etc.)

I heard that if you’re flying back to the UK or Australia from Thailand, then you might have to go through some kind of health screening when you arrive. Must warn my folks!

Spain is one of the countries that ask passengers flying back from Thailand to do a health check?

Hello @bella

I'm Thai and I live in Bangkok. Where are you going to be travelling in Thailand?

Influenza cases in Thailand have been rising recently, but it’s not unusual for this time of year. The Department of Disease Control reports about 34,000 cases with a very low mortality rate. It's still safe to travel as long as you take precautions like wearing masks and practicing good hygiene. It’s a personal choice, but the situation doesn’t seem to require delaying your trip. You can always check for more details in the official report here:

This is as of now (Sorry it is in Thai): https://ddc.moph.go.th/uploads/ckeditor2//files/DOE_flu_3.2568.pdf

They said "From January 1 to 18, 2025, there have been 34,323 reported flu cases, with an incidence rate of 52.88 per 100,000 people. Three deaths have been reported from Nakhon Ratchasima, Surin, and Mae Hong Son, each from the A strain of the flu virus. This week's flu cases are higher than the previous year and above the five-year median."

This is the Department of Disease Control website. They are updating regularly but in English might not be very updated: https://ddc.moph.go.th/en/index.php
