Chiang Mai is gearing up to celebrate the Yi Peng Festival 2025 from November 4–6, featuring dazzling lantern parades, beauty contests, and a full lineup of cultural performances that honor centuries of Lanna tradition.

This year’s event will take place under the theme “A Heritage of Nopburi: Preserving Wisdom and Culture, Lanna Yi Peng to the World, with festivities held at Thapae Gate Plaza, Thapae Road, Chiang Mai City Hall, Mae Kha Canal, and Si Khong Pier.

Festival Highlights

Visitors can look forward to a vibrant mix of activities, including:

  • The Grand Lantern Parade, competing for the royal cup
  • The Yi Peng beauty pageant and children’s contest
  • A stunning Lanna-style lantern exhibition featuring banana-leaf crafts and traditional archways
  • A multimedia light-and-sound show along the Ping River
  • Happiness by the River activities at the city’s longest pier
  • Cultural street performances celebrating local artistry

The Grand Lantern Parade

The most anticipated event of Yi Peng will take place on November 6, 2025, starting at 19:00. The parade will feature 31 grand lantern floats, including one from the Chiang Mai Municipality, five sponsored lanterns, and 25 contest entries. The procession will travel from Thapae Gate Plaza to Chiang Mai City Hall, filling the streets with glowing lights and festive cheer.

Among this year’s special guests are Anna Sueangam-iam (Miss Universe Thailand 2022), who will ride on the municipality’s float, along with Chonnikan Supittayaporn (Miss Thailand 2023), Dr. Minna Kaewthip Noranithiwan (Miss Chiang Mai 2024), and Kanya Sirikanya Khamkoon (Miss Chiang Mai 2025).

The Yi Peng Festival, one of Northern Thailand’s most beloved celebrations, combines faith, beauty, and artistry in a spectacular showcase of Lanna heritage—and 2025 promises to be one of the most memorable editions yet.
