Phuket Set to Host Vibrant Peranakan Festival 2025

Phuket is preparing to welcome locals and visitors alike for the much-anticipated Phuket Peranakan Festival 2025, scheduled from June 20 to 22. The annual celebration promises an immersive cultural experience highlighted by colorful parades and live performances.

This year’s event is expected to be more spectacular than ever, aligning with recent accolades Phuket has received on the international stage. Among them are the Creative City Award (Cultural Asset category) from Thailand’s Creative Economy Agency (CEA), the Asia Pinnacle Award from the International Festivals & Events Association (IFEA) Asia, and the Gold Pinnacle Award from the IFEA’s global convention in the United States.

Chinese tourists are especially enthusiastic about embracing local traditions, often dressing in traditional Baba-Yaya costumes as they tour Phuket Old Town, adding to both the atmosphere and the local economy.

The event will feature over 2,000 performers representing Peranakan communities from Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore. Notably, all participants are genuine members of their cultural communities, not professional performers, underscoring the festival’s authenticity.

The festival’s signature event, a grand Peranakan carnival parade, is scheduled for June 21, accompanied by a dazzling fireworks display and a wide range of live entertainment.

On June 22, the festival will aim to break a Guinness World Record as more than 200 chefs and local eateries come together to cook Phuket Hokkien noodles in over 200 massive woks, with the cooked dishes served to the event’s attendees.

With increasing participation each year, the Phuket Peranakan Festival continues to evolve into a landmark event on the global cultural calendar, drawing attention not only for its vibrant festivities but also for its role in preserving a rich and colorful tradition.
