Free Wi-Fi Coming Soon for Long-Distance Train Travel in Thailand

Passengers traveling on long-distance trains to the North, Northeast, and South of Thailand will soon enjoy free Wi-Fi, with the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) set to roll out the service by the end of the year.

SRT governor Veeris Ammarapala announced that the initiative comes in response to frequent passenger complaints about losing internet access while trains pass through remote forests and mountainous areas, making it difficult to track news updates or the train’s real-time location.

Initially, complimentary Wi-Fi will be available in the first- and second-class sections of Special Express trains operating on the Bangkok–Chiang Mai (North), Bangkok–Nong Khai, Bangkok–Ubon Ratchathani (Northeast), and Hat Yai (South) routes.

Mr. Veeris also mentioned that the service will expand further next year, covering an additional 146 air-conditioned trains across the network.
