The Dutch city of Haarlem will become the first city in the world to ban meat advertisements in public in an attempt to reduce the consumption of meat, which accounts for almost 60% of greenhouse gases from food production.

The ban, which will come into force in 2024, will forbid meat-related adverts from being shown on buses, shelters and public screens.

Naturally, the meat sector are beefing about this unprecedented move, but GroenLinks councillor Ziggy Klazes, who was behind the motion, says a lot of people ‘think it’s fine’ and hopes it will be taken up nationally.
