Chiang Mai Named Asia’s Best City in Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards 2025

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has announced that Chiang Mai has secured the top spot as Asia’s Best City in the Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards 2025. The northern Thai city also earned the No. 2 ranking globally, further solidifying its reputation as one of the world’s most cherished travel destinations. Bangkok, meanwhile, also performed strongly, achieving high placements in both Asian and global rankings.
Chiang Mai: A Global Favourite
Earning a Reader Score of 91.94, Chiang Mai was praised for its warm hospitality, vibrant food culture, and rich history. Visitors celebrated the city’s mix of cultural and natural attractions, including the sacred Wat Phra That Doi Suthep temple, colorful night markets, and the scenic mountain landscapes surrounding the city. Experiences such as ethical elephant sanctuaries, where guests can feed and bathe elephants, were also highlighted as unique draws.
Bangkok: Dynamic and Diverse
Thailand’s bustling capital also earned a Hall of Fame distinction for consistently ranking among the best destinations worldwide. In the 2025 awards, Bangkok placed third in Asia and fourth globally, with a Reader Score of 91.34. Travelers described the city as “fascinating and beautiful,” citing its street food, ornate temples, bustling markets, and nightlife as reasons for its enduring appeal.
Thai Islands Shine in Asia’s Top Five
Thailand’s appeal extended to its islands, with Phuket and Ko Samui making the list of Asia’s Best Islands. Phuket placed fourth (89.47) for its pristine beaches, luxury accommodations, and water activities, while Ko Samui ranked fifth (89.31), celebrated for its relaxed vibe and tropical scenery.
