Bangkok has been named the world’s most visited city in 2025, highlighting Thailand’s strong tourism recovery and reinforcing the capital’s long-standing appeal to international travelers.
The ranking comes from the Top 100 City Destinations Index 2025 by global market research firm Euromonitor International, which places Bangkok at the top of its global list, with an estimated 30.3 million international arrivals this year. The milestone reflects the city’s ability to attract visitors across leisure, business, and long-stay travel segments.
Deputy Government Spokesperson Aiyarin Phanrit confirmed the ranking, describing it as a significant achievement for Thailand, following several challenging years for the global travel industry. She noted that the result demonstrates the effectiveness of Thailand’s tourism promotion strategies, improved air connectivity, and the country’s reputation for warm hospitality.

Strong Growth in Air Travel
Thailand’s aviation data supports the surge in visitor numbers. According to figures from the Aeronautical Radio of Thailand (Aerothai), a total of 904,796 flights were handled during the 2025 fiscal year, with traffic increasing steadily toward year-end. December alone recorded 84,543 flights, while January 2026 is projected to see approximately 87,835 flights.
Looking ahead, Aerothai forecasts 928,165 flights in the next fiscal year — a 3 percent increase compared with the previous year. International flights are expected to account for more than half of the total, with 473,364 international flights projected, alongside 343,422 domestic flights and 111,379 overflights passing through Thai airspace.
New Year Travel Rush Expected
Authorities are also preparing for a busy New Year travel period from December 29 to January 7, during which an estimated 27,632 flights are expected to operate — an average of 2,763 flights per day. Thai media reports indicate that government agencies have been instructed to implement enhanced safety, traffic, and airport management measures to handle the surge and minimize delays during peak travel days.
Focus on High-Value Tourism
Earlier in 2025, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) reinforced its long-term tourism strategy by leading 50 Thai tourism businesses to the World Travel Market (WTM) 2025 in London. The initiative targeted high-value traveler segments, including wellness tourists, responsible travelers, and luxury holidaymakers.
With record-breaking visitor numbers, expanding air traffic, and a strategic focus on premium travel segments, Bangkok’s position as the world’s top tourist destination in 2025 highlights the city’s global appeal — and signals continued momentum for Thailand’s tourism sector in the years ahead.
