Occupying the first floor of Cross Vibe Bangkok Sukhumvit in Bangkok’s On Nut subdistrict, Yan Spa is one of the city’s best-kept secrets for luxury budget pampering. The spa is beautifully fitted out, with clean, modern rooms, and includes a poolside chill-out area and separate male and female onsen. Most impressive, though, was the standard of customer service we experienced, from the initial warm welcome to the final smiley farewell, with pre- and post-treatment drinks provided. Such service included an unrivalled level of attentiveness during the treatment itself, with staff following our direction to the letter, as set out in our health declaration form presented to us upon arrival. It resulted in an unusually relaxing and gentle Thai massage – highly recommended for those looking for a Thai massage that’s more meditative than medicinal.

Thai and foot massages at Yan Spa start from a very reasonable THB 500 for 60 minutes, with other massages including a Sport Massage, Hot Oil Massage, Swedish Massage and Oriental Massage, priced at THB 900 for 60 minutes, and a Hot Stone Massage, priced at THB 1,500 for 90 minutes. There are also a couple of 60-minute body scrubs on the menu (either tamarind or coconut), priced at THB 1,000, and a selection of three facial treatments for THB 1,200 each.

Spa packages start from THB 1,400 for two hours and include time in the spa’s onsen – a calming space with subdued lighting and water heated to a temperature ideal for long relaxing soaks.

Yan Spa is well worth the 15-minute journey down the BTS line from the city centre (get off at the On Nut stop). You can find Cross Vibe Bangkok Sukhumvit, a seven-minute walk from On Nut BTS station, at the back of Tesco Lotus supermarket, a couple of side streets on the left off Sukhumvit 50 (look for the big blue Kokotel sign).
