Though it may be something of a challenge to locate (enter Sunrise Building and take the stairs to the first floor), Root Vegan is a handy spot for anyone that finds themselves in the vicinity of Central MTR Station. The restaurant offers an eclectic menu of meat-free appetisers and mains, among which Thai cuisine is well represented, with Thai Tofu & Oyster Mushroom with Vegan Shrimp Chips, Northern Thai Curry Noodles with Chicken (oyster, mushroom, fried wanton skin) and the Thai Appetizer Platter (satay chicken, fish cake, chicken drumstick, tempeh cracker, spring roll). Making up the international offering are the Korean Bibimbap with Sweet Soy Sauce, the Korean Grilled Oyster Mushroom Lettuce Wrap and, for Japanese-cuisine enthusiasts, Miso Soymilk Soup Ramen and Japanese Style Cold Tofu with Omni Tuna. Diners can also take their pick of an extensive drinks menu, including coffee (black, iced, caramel or as an oat-milk latte), smoothies, a range of both hot and iced drinks, a premium-tea selection (Dried Persimmon, Cranberry Acai or Strawberry Lemon) and a ‘Wellness’ section (Lemongrass Chrysanthemum Tea, Turmeric Latte, Red Date Longan Ginger Tea or Black Sugar Xishen Oat Milk). The chill-out space includes a slim balcony with a few tables overlooking the street below for those that like to see Hong Kong life pass by.
