Saranrom Park

Saranrom Park, สวนสราญรมย์, is on Charoen Krung Road, Phra Borom Maha Ratchawang Subdistrict, Phra Nakhon District, Bangkok 10200, opposite the Grand Palace on the east side. It was a royal residence and a place where foreign royal guests were received in the reign of King Rama V. It is now a public garden in the Rattanakosin manner with Western influence.

It is open every day from 04:00 to 21:00. The admission fee is free. The park office telephone is 02-221-0195. Sanam Chai MRT is the nearest station.

You can see the monument to Queen Sunandha Kumariratana and Princess Kannabhorn Bejraratana, ordered by King Rama V in 1883 after they died in a royal-barge accident, set where the queen used to spend time.

The Glass Pavilion is a single-storey Western club hall with carved wood under the roof. In 1904 it housed the Thawi Panya Club and Theatre, and later the Bangkok Tree School.

The Trumpet Pavilion was used for the naval brass band when King Rama VI, then Crown Prince, held parties here. There is also an octagonal pavilion, the Takian Thong Shrine in an old Chinese form, and a floral-patterned door under an arch.

There is a European metal fountain more than 100 years old, and a conserved champaka tree, Pterospermum acerifolium, which flowers around January and February.

The park has a bathroom, a playground, exercise equipment, a health court, badminton, and table tennis. People use the lawns for aerobics and for Chinese boxing, sword, and stick practice, and there are sometimes musical performances.

Drones, smoking, alcohol, sleeping, gambling, pets, bicycles, and motorcycles are not allowed, and neither is littering or playing football, volleyball, or takraw on the park roads or in areas marked as prohibited.

Disabled visitors may bring a certified guide dog. The contact number is shared with the office that also looks after Santichaiprakan Park.
