Pipit Banglamphu Museum
Pipit Banglamphu Museum, พิพิธบางลำพู, is a Treasury Department museum in Chana Songkhram, Phra Nakhon, Bangkok 10200. The street is listed two ways, and they don’t match.
One address is Phra Sumane Road, Chana Songkhram Subdistrict, Phra Nakhon District, Bangkok 10200. The other is Phra Athit Road near Phra Sumen Fort, Chana Songkhram, Phra Nakhon, Bangkok 10200. Walk through the park past the fort to a white concrete building.
The Fine Arts Department registered the building as an ancient monument in 2000. The building was the Wat Sungkwej printing school, the first school in Thailand to teach printing in a systematic way, and a former textbook press. One display rebuilds an old classroom beside an exhibition on the history of printing.
There are four exhibitions. The Glorious Queen is in honour of Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother. Forts of Rattanakosin uses replicas of walls, canals, and fortresses.
The Treasury Department exhibition covers coin production, currency, state valuables, and Crown Property. The Bang Lamphu community exhibition is on trade, entertainment, and the different cultures of the neighbourhood.
Hours are listed two ways, and they don’t match. One is Tuesday to Sunday, 08:30–16:30, closed Monday, New Year holidays, and Songkran. Visits run in rounds of 60 minutes, with a last round at 15:00 Tuesday to Friday and 16:00 on Saturday and Sunday.
The other is Tuesday to Friday 08:30–16:30 and weekends 10:00–18:00, closed Monday. Nothing is said about closing for New Year or Songkran.
An adult is listed at 30 baht, a child aged 10 to 18 at 10 baht, and a visitor aged 60 or older as free. Those same 30 baht and 10 baht amounts are also labeled as a foreign adult and a foreign child, and the two wordings don’t match. No fee is given with the visiting hours.
