After more than a decade away, The Phantom of the Opera is making its highly anticipated return to Bangkok. This world-famous musical will be staged from August 5 to 31, 2025, at the Muangthai Rachadalai Theatre, located at The Esplanade shopping complex on Ratchadaphisek Road, for a limited season of 22 performances.

Audiences in Thailand will once again have the chance to experience this iconic production, which has captivated over 160 million theatergoers worldwide in 21 languages across 47 territories and 195 cities since its original debut nearly 40 years ago.

Adapted from Gaston Leroux’s 1910 novel Le Fantôme de l’Opéra, with a score composed by the legendary Andrew Lloyd Webber, the musical follows the haunting and romantic tale of Christine Daaé, a young soprano who draws the attention of a mysterious and disfigured genius known as the Phantom. Hidden in the catacombs beneath the Paris Opera House, the Phantom becomes increasingly obsessed with Christine, using his musical prowess to guide her career—though his passion soon leads to darker and more dangerous consequences.

The Phantom of the Opera first premiered in London’s West End in 1986 and made its Broadway debut in 1988. It has since become one of the most celebrated and opulent musicals of all time, earning more than 70 major theatre awards. A film version was released in 2004, starring Emmy Rossum and Gerard Butler.

In 2006, it became the longest-running show in Broadway history, surpassing Cats, and has been performed nearly 14,000 times in the U.S. alone, with an audience of over 19.5 million. It also holds the distinction of being the second longest-running musical in London’s West End, just behind Les Misérables.

All Bangkok performances will include Thai surtitles. Tickets range from THB 2,300 to THB 7,000 for the gala performance on August 5, and THB 1,800 to THB 6,500 for all other shows. Tickets are available at thaiticketmajor.com.
