Baan Amphawa Resort and Spa in Amphawa, Thailand.

About 65 km south of Bangkok, Baan Amphawa Resort & Spa sits on the bank of the Mae Klong in Amphawa. You stay in traditional Thai wooden houses, with a second cluster of newer villas in the gardens. It’s an easy weekend from the city, and the floating market is part of the trip rather than a detour.

Some rooms share a plunge pool. On the grounds you’ll find a restaurant, bars, two swimming pools, a children’s play area, a fitness room, and a spa. A boat on the river can be arranged, and you can hire a bicycle for the lanes. The Thai Village has 47 rooms and suites, and the resort also has 14 villas and 59 units overall.

The Grounds

Two pools, a playground, and the river

There are two swimming pools with a jacuzzi, a children’s playground, a fitness room, and a gift shop. Free Wi-Fi is included. Bicycles are available to rent if you want the country lanes under your own steam.

A boat excursion on the river can be arranged by day, or at night for fireflies. The resort gives the best firefly months as both July to October and June to October, so ask which window they mean before you plan around it. 🛶

River restaurant, and two bars

Saban-Nga is the all-day restaurant by the river, cooking local Thai food. Breakfast is 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Lunch through dinner runs 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. No MSG is used in the cooking. Dishes it names include Amphawa pomelo spicy salad, spicy mackerel soup, grilled river prawn, and young coconut jelly.
