Are there trains that go to Trat?

Nah, you run out of track just south of Pattaya, so the only options are bussing it or flying.

I did the trip by bus (from BKK Ekkamai) many moons ago. Think it took a good 5 hrs going down (overnight-ish) but nearer to 7 coming back in daylight hours.

Yes, there was a plan about extending the line all the way to Trat, but as yet, this hasn't happened.

Yeah, flying's the way to go, but the last time I checked, Bangkok Airways was the only airline flying there and it was about 4k one way.
