I've seen some of the damage from the recent earthquake, and it got me wondering how can we tell which condos, etc. here are built to withstand quakes? Any thoughts?
You should try to live in a property with steel-reinforced concrete. Concrete does not move, but steel can bend when there is tension. This makes the property safer in an earthquake.
If the earthquake is making cracks in your building, it is not meaning it will fall down necessarliy or not safe. This is what I read from thai government.
If you worry about this issue, you can call 1555 and a engineer will come check the building for you.
As a general rule of thumb, buildings here constructed after 2007 should be relatively safer in terms of withstanding the impact of earthquakes, or so I've heard.
