Looking into buying my first condo in Bangkok and need a bit of advice. Not sure if a condo's a good investment? Should I be focusing on location, property size, future developments (in BKK) or something else?? Also, any advice on choosing the right condo?

Hi James. I think the property size and location will depend on your own circumstances, but there are some things to bear in mind when you buy property here. You should be aware that if foreigners want to buy property in Thailand, they have to pay a 2% transfer fee, a 1% mortgage fee (if it's needed), and some taxes like a 0.5% stamp duty or a 3.3% specific business tax. The money must come from another country, and they can only own condos or lease land. I hope I haven't got my facts wrong, so always check first!

Location, location, location, as they say. 😉 As Louis said, a lot depends on your own individual circumstances. Have you gotta be fairly near work? Obviously, the inner city areas are gonna be a bit pricey.

Buying a condo in Bangkok (one day, hopefully!! 😆 ) is also something I’m thinking about. Any suggestions on the cheapest areas in the city?

@jasmine On Nut Road and Ladprao are a couple of areas that come to mind. You can find cheap places in the Ratchada area too.
