Thailand has rolled out a nationwide security initiative that combines advanced technology, expanded police services, and closer inter-agency coordination to improve safety for both locals and visitors. The effort comes as the country prepares for the busy high season, with authorities prioritizing public confidence and crime prevention.
The plan was outlined during an inter-agency meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Captain Thammanat Prompao at the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. Tourism and Sports Minister Atthakorn Sirilatthayakorn confirmed that, while boosting visitor arrivals remains important, the government’s top priority is ensuring public safety through stronger security measures.
AI-Driven Monitoring
At the heart of the initiative is AI Detect, a facial-recognition system developed for the Tourist Police. The system will scan crowded areas, checking individuals against national arrest warrants. Officers will be instructed to use the technology to monitor high-risk individuals and detect suspicious behavior in real time.
Around-the-Clock Support
To enhance protection and response, the 1155 Emergency Hotline will now operate 24/7 throughout the high season. The recently launched Thailand Tourist Police app, available in eight languages—including English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Russian—will allow users to report incidents, request assistance, and send emergency alerts directly to police centers.
Data-Driven Safe Zones
Authorities have also ordered a comprehensive review of tourist-related crimes. The data will be used to establish official safe zones across Thailand, with findings made public to reinforce transparency and build visitor trust.
Increased Police Presence
A total of 274 officers will be deployed across 79 key locations nationwide to monitor security as tourism activity increases. These efforts will also extend to managing logistics during major events such as the upcoming SEA Games, when crowds are expected to swell.
By integrating AI technology, expanded emergency services, crime data analysis, and increased manpower, Thailand is sending a clear message: strengthening security is at the core of its strategy to protect both residents and visitors.
