Thailand’s aviation sector just received a major boost as the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has given the country the top safety rating—Category 1. The decision confirms that Thailand now meets all international standards for civil aviation oversight and allows Thai airlines to operate flights to the United States.

The Ministry of Transport made the announcement on April 22, describing it as a pivotal step forward for the industry.

Thailand has worked extensively to align its systems with global standards. The successful completion of ICAO’s safety audit played a key role in the FAA’s Category 1 decision.

With the upgrade, Thai airlines can now launch or expand direct services to the U.S. and potentially grow their presence in other markets that follow FAA ratings, such as South Korea.

The rating is expected to strengthen global confidence in Thailand’s aviation oversight and position the country for stronger growth in international air travel.
