Beck Hall, in the UK’s Yorkshire Dales, has gone fully vegan, making it the first plant-based hotel in England.
The 20-room riverside hotel, bar and restaurant in the popular village of Malham announced the news in October of last year, making the vegan switch two months later.
For owners Andy and Louise Macbeth, who acquired the property in 2014, the move was a natural transition, having already turned vegan themselves.
Excited to share their healthy lifestyle with both regular and new guests alike, they are keen to point out that the magical location, friendly staff, wholesome menus and dog friendliness, which are a big draw for Beck Hall’s loyal customers, will remain unchanged.
A former yeoman’s cottage dating back to 1705, Beck Hall features cosy and characterful en-suite rooms, each with Wi-Fi, a smart TV and tea- and coffee-making facilities.

The hotel’s award-winning restaurant – The Secret Garden – lays on a breakfast buffet of plant-based favourites, including freshly baked pastries, fruit salad, cereals, toast and chia puddings, while its lunch and à la carte menus boast dishes ranging from The Beck Hall Burger to the Middle Eastern Kofta. Diners can also enjoy afternoon tea, with loose-leaf teas, sandwiches, warm homemade scones with butter, jam and cashew cream and a selection of cakes, and a Sunday Roast menu (Seitan Roasts or Mushroom Wellington), complete with all the trimmings, including the essential Yorkshire pudding.

After such gastronomic delights, guests have the pleasure of walking off their meal in one of Britain’s most stunning locations, with attractions such as Malham Cove cliff formation, Janet’s Foss waterfall, Gordale Scar limestone ravine and Malham Tarn glacial lake all within easy walking distance of the hotel.
