Hidden away at the end of a series of narrow roads in the Thong Lor area of Bangkok, Mayu Bangkok Japanese Style Hotel offers an authentic slice of the land of the rising sun in the land of smiles. From the sliding latticework doors to the kimono-clad hotel staff, a great effort has been made to faithfully recreate the Japanese style. Thoughtful touches include Japanese-style parasols available to borrow for photo opportunities around the compact but beautifully presented resort; free Japanese afternoon tea; and a complimentary nighttime warm soya-milk drink delivered to your room. Although the surrounding buildings remind you that you’re still in the middle of the city, the hotel has done an admirable job of transporting you to an oasis of ryokan peace, and at night the only sound is the trickle of water from the bamboo water fountain outside your room and the occasional passing car. As well as the onsite Kashikiri Soda Onsen and Spa, Mayu Bangkok offers a number of private onsen, a restaurant and a small swimming pool. For vegans and veggies, there are at least three eateries reachable on foot that offer suitable cuisine, including the Hummus Boutique, Nature’s Charm Cafe and alt.Eatery.
