I've heard both islands are cool but if you could pick one, which one would you recommend for first trip to Thailand?

One (Ko Samui) is more developed than the other. Ko Phangan has a more laid-back vibe. For inspiration, you could always watch The White Lotus series 3, currently being screened, because it was filmed at The Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui.

I think Koh Samui is more luxury with big resorts and shopping malls. If you want more relaxing then Koh Phangan is better for you.

I’d say Koh Phangan is usually more relaxed (unless you end up in the middle of the full moon party crowd!😵 🍾 ).

Personally, I prefer Ko Phangan. Ko Samui is much bigger, so it is more difficult to go around unless you have your own transport.

Do you have time to see both?? I recommend it because they are very different. Koh Samui is more commercialized, but Koh Phangan is better for relaxing.

@becks-bkk Yeah, from what I remember, it takes only 20 min by ferry to get from one island to the other.
